James Gaster
James Gaster is Managing Director of Mahogany, overseeing strategy, operations with a continued focus on artist discovery and development, working with an incredible team of experienced and passionate music execs and creative visionaries. Their boutique approach fosters deep engagement with artists, managers, and labels, helping launch careers and cultivate a global community of music enthusiasts.
With roots in Kent’s vibrant local music scene, James journey began performing in bands, booking shows, and mixing live sound at grassroots venues. By 18, he was recording local bands by day and managing live events by night, driven by a relentless passion for music. This led him to the SAE Institute in London to study Audio Engineering, inspired by alumni like Nigel Godrich, producer of Radiohead’s OK Computer.
After graduation, living in London James gained invaluable experience at iconic studios like The Dairy, Konk, and Mayfair, assisting esteemed producers such as Matthew Herbert and Ben Hillier. Simultaneously, organizing shows with emerging and returning artists at renowned venues including 100 Club, Birthdays and The Nest.
In 2012, James partnered with Mahogany, initially focusing on live events. Together, they curated standout shows and tours across London, Berlin, and LA, while developing artists through our own platforms, shows and network and continues to do so today.
