TAMMY TINAWI - CAVENDISH MUSIC
PANEL TOPICS – THE GATE KEEPERS OF SYNC
Tammy Tinawi, Senior Music Consultant, Cavendish Music
Originally from Brighton, Tammy Tinawi’s musical background began with a love of dance music from the age of 10. Growing up with an older sister who was at the forefront of the 90’s rave scene, she was influenced by original house and techno. She remembers her cousin and sister teaching her how to dance whilst listening to ‘Playing With Knives’ by Bizarre Inc. It was a natural progression from house and dance in her teens, through to indie and rock in her twenties as the music scene and her life changed.
Her varied experience in the music and entertainment industry stems from opportunities taken in regions as culturally diverse as Dubai, Sydney and Ibiza. Having returned to the UK in 2012 she kick-started her career in the world of Sync and music supervision, originally at The Sound Works in Brighton, on to a couple of years at global sync agency Big Sync Music and now straddling 2 roles at Cavendish Music, both senior music consultant and producer.
Tammy began her career in the entertainment industry by promoting nightclubs in Brighton from the age of 17. After a couple of seasons in Ibiza, she moved to Dubai and in 2003 she set up an events management company, running her own weekly event - Gorgeous Dubai. Here she brought artists like X-Press 2 and Dirty Vegas to the city, as well as brands such as Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi. Additionally, using her network of contacts she managed international tours for brands such as Hat Club and Pukka Up, oversaw the launch of San Francisco deep house label Om in the Middle East and managed DJ duo The BeatThiefs in their rise to fame. Tammy was also involved in managing Dubai Sound City – a three day music festival with over 80 bands, affiliated to Liverpool Sound City – an event which included the first Middle East Music Conference.
In 2010, after seven years in Dubai, Tammy took on a freelance role of Marketing Manager for various festivals and clubs in Sydney, Australia – including working for the prestigious Ivy and Hugos, as well as the city’s 10,000 capacity Space Ibiza Festival.
It was when she moved back to the UK in 2012 in her hometown of Brighton that Tammy entered the field of music supervision. At The Sound Works she became a music supervisor and worked closely with musicians and artists, publishers and labels, helping to create the perfect tracks for both advertising and film for agencies such as VCCP, DLKW Lowe, Ogilvy and Grey London. Gaining valuable experience and contacts, she caught the attention of Big Sync Music and joined the family as Music Supervisor in April 2015. Tammy’s international expertise was put to good use in her role as music supervisor for the company’s clients worldwide – working closely with creative agencies and music specialists across many different markets for some of the world’s biggest brands. Her finest moment was working intensely with 72 & Sunny and the AXE brand team to supervise the music for their global campaign ‘Find Your Magic’ which gained a stint on the all important Superbowl advertising spot and was nominated for a Music+Sound Award.
At Cavendish Music Tammy has broadened her client base to working not only in advertising, but with broadcast, film, radio, film trailers and corporate clients as well as highly esteemed music supervisors, in the search for the perfect track as her role as Senior Music Consultant. Cavendish Music, who was bought by Canadian indie OLE in 2016, is the UK’s largest independent production music library, offering sync solutions through the plethora of tracks on the library. Tammy has now developed and utilized her experience and close network of composers to become a producer, creating and producing albums for the library, including working with commercial singers, songwriters and bands to write sync worthy material for the catalogue. Being involved with the production team, working closely with composers, curating new albums based on client needs and using her industry experience she also continues to work on bespoke projects and commercial searches for the many diverse client needs.
