IN CONVERSATION WITH DAVE ROWNTREE
Drummer, activist and animator Dave Rowntree made his name in the heart of the 90’s Brit-pop craze as the drummer and co-founder of Blur. Over the last 3 decades the band have won over 40 music awards including 5 Brit Awards for Best British Album, Best British Single, Best British Group and more.
Best known for their singles ‘Parklife’, ‘Song 2’ and ‘Girls And Boys’, Dave’s pumping drum-style has always been at the core of the Blur sound. Now he has found more time to expand on his activism, he has become a politician for the Labour Party and county councillor for the University division in Norwich. He has also explored his love for radio, TV and computer animation.
Dave will be joining us at Sound City 2019 for a special one off discussion at the BME. He will cover the ups and downs of playing in one of the UK’s biggest bands, the need for activism in music, and how his broad, extra blur career, has led to him filming with Slaves, hosting his own show on XFM and directing an animation comedy on Channel 4.
